The Church: A Sleeping Giant

The community is nothing more than a sleeping giant of believers who have forgotten the Way of the Faith we once held dear as the Church. It is to this point that I write these insightful words of wisdom. They are words to remind my brothers and sisters of the Life we are called to live, and the Love we are to show towards all men. Scripture tells us that we are the "Salt" of the Earth and the "Light" of the World. We must remember to do the Truth in word, as well as, in deed; esteeming our brethren more than ourselves. In the book of Acts, the writer makes two entries with regards to the church being on one accord and having all things in "common"; Acts 2:44-47, and Acts 4:32-37.

Act 2:44-47 reads - "And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved".

Again we read in Act 4:32-37, - "And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet".

We see that the disciples were all together, sharing their goods and possessions as well as having meals together in an environment of commonality with no one lacking. They took care of one another, and made sure all the needs of the people in that Fellowship of Church was met. The words that I have been drawn to are highlighted bold. I place significant focus on the words "Common" and "Levite". The word "common" describes not only the living condition of the people, but the relationship between them as well. The word implies similarity, of basic or humble conditions, lowly in nature. In other terms, there were no class differences economically, religiously, or politically; because, they had resolved themselves into Christ Jesus at a level of selflessness and compassion for one another. Every man's wealth or excess became apart of the community chest or purse for the less fortunate in order to justify the grace of God toward all who recieved Him in Truth.

Furthermore, The fact that a Levite being called to the Priesthood by God's command and without an inheritance of land; now being in posession of valuable precious land, comes clear to sell the value of it for the Church's sake is inspiring. This says two things of the levitical order. First, had God changed the purpose of the Levitcal Priesthood to collected the tithe, offerings, and finances from the people of God for the upkeep of the Temple.? And second, had God changed where he would dwell among his people concerning temple rights and responsibility? The fact of the matter was that a new order or kingdom was being made manifest in God's people (The Church) for the complete training of disciples, and for the supporting of missionary and evangelical work throughout His Body of Believers.

The Community is the result of all this growth in Christ which has outgrown and fallen off from encouraging, reminding, and caring for the needs of others more than our own. You see, we are in need of a wakeup call. Not another "Revival", but a quickening of Spirit. Because many of us have fallen asleep to the barrage of misuses, misguided, and spiritual illiteracy of wicked and evil men. They can't give you what they don't have! Wake Up! Wake Up! and REPENT while you have time!
